My Daughter Needs Braces

I am looking for low cost orthodontic work for my 12 year old daughter. I can't afford the $5,000 they want to for dental braces. Anyone know where I could go?

Affordable Dental Braces

You can save considerably on dental braces for children. In fact, I believe this is one of those dental procedures where you can really save money. To begin, I would ask that you contact the nearest dental school in your area to see if your daughter qualifies as a patient. Orthodontics is a specialty and more than likely, your daughter can will be treated by someone who is already licensed. To review the list of schools in your area, go here. You will need to contact the school directly for more information on becoming a patient at their facility.

Another option is to look at the costs of braces charged by dentists who participate in dental plans. You can view the plan costs here as well as the cost of the dental braces with the provider before you decide to sign up). You can sign up for a plan and use it to get the discounted rate. When the work is completed, you are not obligated to continue with the plan the following year. But, you should take advantage of the vision, prescriptions and additional free months of coverage offered with some plans. You can check out what it would cost for braces here. Simply enter in your zip code in the "Find Plans in Your Area" section and you will get the list of all plans within your area. IMPORTANT: once you have the list of all plans, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Compare All Plans". You will be taken to a page which lists the fees for procedures. Select the "Specialty Fees" tab and see the percentage you could save with that plan. If you have a favorite or recommended dentist you can see if they participate in a particular plan, then take it from there. Review the plans, the savings, the dentists enrolled in the plan, all conveniently from one place. As far as I know, there are no dental schools which participate in dental plan programs, but they are some very good dentists who do.
