Cheapest Insurance for Dental Treatment

Dental coverage ranges from the cheapest insurance for dental treatment with practically no benefits, to full coverage dental plans with all the bells and whistles. This page is designed to explain some of the various types of dental coverage in its most simplest form in order to help you choose the best insurance plan - a plan that offers you and your family the cheapest insurance for dental treatment, yet does not compromise on the care you require.

Types of Dental Coverage

Dental coverage types include:
dental insurance

    Conventional Dental Insurance Plans

Conventional Dental Insurance Plans are similar to conventional health insurance plans. With a dental insurance plan, you pay a premium, either weekly or monthly, and in return, receive dental benefits which can range anywhere between 80-100% of the dental fee cost. The dental insurance is usually provided by an employer and while there may be program limitations, there are ways to incorporate the use of other dental plans to get full dental coverage. Incorporating the use of other plans can result in receiving the cheapest insurance for dental treatment. Dental Reimbursement Plans offered through an employer or a discounted Dental Plan are some of the ways to accomplish this goal.

    Dental Reimbursement Plans

Dental Reimbursement Plans involve an agreement between the employer and the employee as a way of providing extra benefits to the employee. With this type of plan, dental bills are reimbursed to the employee by the employer for up to the agreed upon limit. A reimbursement plan is not conventional dental insurance. Employees usually contribute into this type of plan with pre-taxed dollars taken from their salary. It is beneficial as it lowers your taxable income. Money is set aside into the reimbursement plan before salary tax is calculated. This money can then be be used to pay for deductibles and any amounts not covered by the conventional dental insurance plan. There are no limitations on the type of dentist or procedure you may have with a Dental Reimbursement Plan. The only limitation is the amount you can set aside as pretax dollars.

Dental Reimbursement Plans usually require yearly enrollment and a forecasted dollar amount that you have to commit to spending during the year. While the tax advantage is obvious with this type of plan, the disadvantage is not using the money that you have committed to setting aside. In this case, the money is forfeited and the company has the right to keep it. Dental Reimbursement Plans require the ability to project what dental costs will be incurred during the year. Many people use their dental deductibles as a basis of the amount they want set aside. If you are planning to have major dental work performed, such as dental crowns or orthodontic braces, a dental Reimbursement Plan can be a great advantage. If you are in relatively good oral health, with no dental problems, then you may want to set aside money to cover the deductible, plus a little more to cover an unforeseen dentist emergency. While dental Reimbursement Plans used alone are not considered a vehicle for obtaining the cheapest insurance for dental treatment, it works best with conventional dental insurance plans as a way to get full coverage dental insurance.

    Dental Insurance Group Plans

If a company does not offer any dental insurance plans to its employees, a voluntary Dental Insurance Group Plan may be an option. Dental Insurance Group Plans allows for bargaining with a dental insurance company for group rates and the rates are generally much lower than that of an individual dental insurance plan. While choosing a dental insurance group plan means that the employees pay the premiums and fees for the dental insurance, the savings are still substantial. Groups of employees have bargaining power and the larger the group of employees, the more beneficial it is for everyone. As with a dental Reimbursement Plan, a group plan is also not considered one of the cheapest insurances for dental treatment. In fact, it may be the most expensive of the various types of dental insurance plans. But if a group plan is used in conjunction with a discount Dental Plan, it can help to increase your total savings on dental fees.

    Discounted Dental Plans

Some consider a Discounted Dental Plan to be the cheapest insurance for dental treatment. Far from being a conventional dental insurance plan, it is one of the most affordable plans on the market today. Dental plans involve paying a single fee, once a year, for program membership. As a member, you have access to a large network of dentists. A discounted Dental Plan is structured like a club, and members are able to visit any dentist within the network to receive dental treatment. Many individuals are choosing to use discounted dental plans with their conventional dental insurance plans to receive full coverage dental insurance.

Dental Insurance vs. Discounted Dental Plans

For many individuals, Conventional Dental Insurance Plans and a discounted Dental Plan are among the most easiest and popular ways to get dental coverage. These plans are directly related to whether someone is employed and has dental insurance or someone who is self employed, or does not have a dental plan with their company. Separately, neither provides for the cheapest dental insurance for treatment, but used in combination, they offer the best option for obtaining the cheapest insurance for dental treatment. If you are looking to join these individuals and save money on dental costs, review some of the dental plans below. Some plans even include vision, prescription and 3 months extra coverage, at no additional cost. Check them out and then decide if there is a plan available that suits the needs of you and your family's oral care needs.
